Heavy rain that lashed the Pathampuzha area in Poonjar on the Kottayam-Idukki border resulting in landslips on Wednesday evening destroyed large tracts of agricultural land and brought damages to at least half a dozen dwellings.
Reports said major landslips had occurred in the interiors of Poonjar, including Valiakoodammala, Aruvikkachal, Kuzhumpalli, Cholathadam, and Malayinchippaara areas.
Four houses were damaged in the landslips and a cowshed was washed away. A cow and a calf were saved by the local people.
P.C. George, Government Chief Whip and the local MLA said no loss of life had been reported. However, acres of cropland had been washed away.
