"An outstanding profile of an institution is a clear proof of its proficiency, popularity and above all pervasive presence of the Omnipotent God"

St antonys H.S.S Poonjar has attained its present academic excellence not all on a sudden. It is the hard work and toil of many committed and dedicated persons who are charged with the abundant blessings and graces of the almighty god. Bowing before and seeking the divine intercessions of blessed Kuriokose Alias
Chavara, the founder father of CMI Congregation, we would like to make an attempt to sketch a brief account of poonjar soils prestigious learning center
The ancient migratory village of poonjar had insufficient facilities to lay the foundations for schooling at the initial stage the esteemed and venerable native of poonjar, Rev. Fr. Chandy Kattarath started An “Ezhuthu Kalari” at maniyamkunnu in 1905. The Govt authorities allowed to commence classes upto 4 in the newly built school Buildings at the maniyamkunnu parish property. All the boys of the school were shifted to the private property of Kattarath Uthup Chandy and the boys school was known ‘maniyamkunnu vernacular primary school.’ Rev. Fr. Chandy Kattarath and sri. uthup Chandy Kattarath were the first and second managers of the school respectively. Initially there were only Two classes and a native of cherpumkal, Late, Mr. Kochuraman Valiyavettil was the first and honorable Master of the school
In order to satisfy and meet the spiritual needs of the people of poonjar, the CMI Congregation started a monastery which is known as ‘Besnahareen’ in 1924. With the arrival of the monastery the primary school at ediyadi kunnu was shifted to the surroundings of the monastery and due to the public plea the distinguished and noble prior of the monastery Rev. Fr. Daniel Myladil CMI accepted the management of the primary school.
In 1918 this chool was recognized and upgraded as a primary school and a native of poonjar south, Late Mr. Joseph Kunjuvarkey Thelliyil Nathanal was the first manager. Sri TM Kochupilla, a man of eminent goodness was the first HM of the school.
In the year 1940 the primary school was upgraded as a middle school owing to the sincere effort incessant labour of Rev. Patrik the prior of the monastery. The name, Popularity, the cultural identity and the educational background of poonjar had a tremendous turning Point and transformation when the middle school had been upgraded to a high school in 1962. The institution can never forget the timely intervention and a generosity of honorable Ex- Home minister of kerala Sri, PT Chako the then prior venerable Fr. Liberious CMI, Sri KP. Mathew Kariyapurayadam And such other eminent persons who had an unforgettable role in the formation and development of the high school.
In the year 1965 The LP School section was separated from the High School section and for each section an HM was appointed. The govt had to issue orders to separate them Due to the over strength of the students. The institution renmembers with great pleasure and gratitude the yeoman service and leadership of Rev. Fr, Ephrem CMI in building the high school and the UP School blocks. In the beginning there were separate classes for the boys and the girls at the high school level but now it is a mixed school. The year 2000 was a milestone in the history of this institution. Owing to the assitance of ex-Edu Minister Sri PJ Joseph and our beloved and enthusiastic MLA SRI PC George the school was upgraded into a Higher Secondary level on the 1st of Aug 2000. Rev Fr Cyriac Pannivelil CMI, a man of vision and foresight, the prior of the monastery and Rev Fr Kurian vengathanam CMI Who will be Remembered for his child like innocence, honesty and cordiality and also the 1st principal of the school did a lot of self less work and spent a lot of time and energy for the upgradation as well and the construction of the higher secondary block. There is also an LP School section, ST. Antonys LP School Poonjar which also provide parallel English divisions in each class the scool has its KG Section too.
Our institution is well reputed for its accademic excellence co curricular performance discipline. The institution is immensely blessed with lot of scholarly, dedicated and comitted teachers who are so eager about the all round development of their beloved students.
